More Editorial Posted as Journalism
Friday, November 14th, 2008If I could figure out a way to monetize the effort, I could spend a full time job simply pointing out all the editorial content the media vomits out masquerading as journalism. Here’s a fresh one today:
The meeting will be the first since Obama, the Democratic Illinois senator, beat McCain, the Arizona Republican senator, by an Electoral College landslide in the Nov. 4 election
The use of “Electoral College landslide” is a disingenuous way of revealing the authors political bias. A popular vote match up of 54% to 46% is completely indefensible as a “landslide,” but the 365 to 162 Electoral College match up may slip by. A bit of history may help.
Shall we compare 365 to the GOP victories of 1972 (520 EC votes for Nixon), 1980 (489 EC votes for Reagan), 1984 (525 EC votes for Reagan), or 1988 (426 EC votes for Bush Sr.)?
Shall we compare 365 to the Donkey victories of 1992 (370 EC votes for Clinton), and 1996 (379 EC votes for Clinton)?
